Our past governor (Rep) ran on a platform of "no new taxes". When elected, he signed off on a bill that raised the taxes on cigarettes 38 cents a pack. This past November, he was soundly defeated by a Dem who ran on a platform of no new taxes, and instilling casino gaming. The casino gaming is now a dead issue, so to raise money for the projected shortfall, he has plans on raising cigarette taxes by 70 cents a pack. The lying bastards will say or do anything to get elected. I hate politicians.....all of them!

I wonder what the states are going to do for money if the higher cigarette taxes actually do make everyone quit smoking.
