Sizzling Hot Saturday 06-07-08

I'm going to a graduation open house for my best friend's son today. I haven't seen her in over a year, so I'm really looking forward to it.

It's supposed to be 90+ today and 2 weeks ago, we had highs in the 50's, so I'm really dreading it.

After last year's fiasco with the sun poisoning, I am a little scared to be outside all day with exposed skin. I intend to keep slathering on the sunblock, but I'm not sure it will do the trick.

Her house is about an hour and a half away from here, and we'll be doing some drinking, so we've made reservations at a small independent motel near her house. I think. T.o.m. said he didn't have to give them a credit card. It ought to be interesting. One thing that keeps going through my mind is the part where they asked him if we'd be staying all night....

So they charge by the hour, eh?

If I remember correctly last year you refused any sun block until the day was nearly over. Use a high UV protection (I got some neutragena 70 misty spray that doesn't have that sun block smell) and you should be fine. Anything 30 or up.

And there's always nice floppy sun hats!

It is damned hot. But the window unit is in, blowing on me right now.

Hillary finally is the press and liberal pundit's darling...now that she has bowed out and given her blessing to Obama.

No doubt all the voices screaming for her to get out of the race since super Tues will now praise her long fought "historic" campaign. After all, now it's the politically correct thing to do.

Don't get me wrong. I have no sympathy for all her supporters who just wanted a woman to be in the White House during their lifetime - that's a stupid reason to support someone.

And the nutjobs who say they will switch to McCain (tho I feel this is WAY WAY overblown) can't have supported Hillary for any good reason - going to McCain instead of backing Obama is changing direction from what Hillary represented.

But anyway, the Dems are going to win. All hail President Barack Hussein Obama!

Uh... I really doubt that will happen - not that I really care either way.

So, about that motel....

It was old. Very, very old. That didn't bother me at all.

As we were checking in, the young woman asked, "Will you be staying all night?" It felt pretty creepy to me, but still, I wasn't that bothered about it.

We went to check out the room and on the window ledge just outside was an animal skull. It wasn't there for decoration. I believe an animal died up there and that was all that was left. And even though I didn't like it, I still hadn't given up.

We walked in and tried out the A/C, which worked great, but the floor sure as hell wasn't freshly vacuumed and the bath mat looked sorta used. I started thinking that I wasn't sure I could stay there.

T.o.m. walked over to the bed and turned back the covers, and on the pillow was.... a dead ant. At this point, I thought if we HAVE to stay here, I'm sitting up in the chair until morning.

Thankfully, my friend did not have a house full staying over and insisted that we stay there. T.o.m. was a little miffed over spending money on the motel, but as I told him, the money's spent whether we stay there or here.

I knew it was going to be not that great of a place, but I had no idea that a pillow in my car would seem like luxury comparatively.

Today I've got a family birthday party at my sister's.

Two parties in one weekend, whew!

I think I would have tried to get my money back from the motel or at least part of it. Just think if you'd had a black light to look around the room for bodily fluids - ewwwwww. That ant may have died of aids.

I really didn't want to go back there at all - and we didn't. My friend is going to drop off the key on her way to work tomorrow.

And that second party, today, was a family get together. The only booze involved was the vodka I spiked my flavored water with. My daughter did make us all laugh till we cried, though. My brother-in-law was describing how he used to look back in '81: long hair, feather earring, headband and moccasins, and riding around on his motorcycle. Daughter 2 waited half a beat and said, "What a dork!" I thought my brother was going to literally die, he was laughing so hard. Then he said, "I was thinking the exact same thing." For the record, my b-i-l is a bit of a dork.
