We are seriously nearing the end of 2007. Christmas is only 2 days away. JCPenney sent me another $10 off any $10 purchase that expires Christmas Eve, the bastards. I feel compelled to attempt another trip to the mall because $10 is $10. I can get the old man some new briefs or something.

I know they think that giving me the $10 gets me in the store in the hopes I will spend more money. But no, not me. My shopping is done but I will find something worth around $10 in order to use that damn coupon. Evil bastards.

I can see this is going to be a lonely holiday online.

I did the candy coated pretzels today. I've got some fudge and brownies to make but I'm kind of over it today.

A nap sounds like a good idea.

We're heading to my sister-in-laws today, about 1:00. On the way, we get a call from my wife's other sister, saying that she's at the brother's house to pick him up, but he's lying on the couch and can't be woken up. EMS is called, we divert to the hospital....get there about 15 minutes after they do. Wait for an hour whjle he's in the ER. Nurse comes out, takes evryone back to the "family room"......portent of bad news to come....The doctor finally comes in.....brain aneuresym....brain flooded with blood.....essentially braindead. His wife distraught....call priest for last rites.....last rites given with all his sisters in attendance....the two brothers aren't there. Wife tells us he wished to donate organs....neuro-surgeon needs to confirm brain death......"plug" to be pulled tomorrow. All around shitty day.

I'll say. I'm sorry for your family's loss.

I know this is little comfort but that sounds like decent way to go - quick, at home on the couch, little to no suffering. Still, it's harder on the family, a sudden loss like that. Again, my condolences.

When it's time. it's how I hope I go. No suffering, no lingering. Thank you for your kind words.

One of my distant cousins died earlier this year suddenly at 54. She had had a few headaches in the span of just a week or two along with a cold like symptoms and thought she had the flu. She got over the cold, got another headache and laid down to rest and never woke up - brain tumor.

yeah brain tumors are a fucked up part of nature.

I'm sorry to hear about your family's loss.

In her case she never even knew she had one, never suffered anything more severe than a headache. I know others aren't so lucky - if you can call any kind of death lucky - but I will consider myself lucky if I go without suffering.
