Wednesday 11-14-07

Well... yesterday was interesting. Most of the afternoon consisted of showing me where everything is located in the office. I will probably forget most of it.

I met the other owner and he is a Character, with a capital C. The guy is orignially from Turkey, but he's been in the states for more than 50 years. He's hilarious. I swear that every sentence he uttered contained "goddam" at least once, and most were peppered with "shit" and "fuck." He is quite a talker and I imagine that many of my days there will be filled with listening to his stories... lol.

The woman training me was showing me some computer stuff, like uploading pix and linking, and I didn't say a word about the short cuts she could use. I don't wanna let on that I know anything. lmao

Here's some irony for you. The minute I got home yesterday, t.o.m. told me that the other place I thought I had a chance at getting a job had called and wanted me to come in for further testing. I'm kind of disappointed because the hours there were more to my liking - 3-10:30 - and they had insurance, but it wasn't an offer and I gave my word to the woman who hired me that I wouldn't quit right away like that.

When it rains, it pours, eh.

I understand giving your word but you've barely started so they haven't invested much in you yet. You gotta do what's best for you - maybe a return phone call to the other place asking their intent wouldn't be amiss. Think about those insurance premiums!

Well, they make insurance available. I'd still have to pay the entire premium.

I'd have to call off to do the testing and it's not like they've offered me anything. In fact, when I interviewed with them, I was told they would be making a decision in 3-4 weeks, so it would still be awhile before I'd get an offer even if they wanted me.

And you know how I am about promises...

Yep. Oh well, it's nice to be wanted anyway.

Sounds like you'll have plenty of entertainment at work, lol. Will the others be in the office much or do you know?

I'm not sure. The two brokers weren't in at all yesterday. The other owner, Character's wife, was in all afternoon. The only other employee is the weekend receptionist whom I was told is a flake, but since I won't be working with her I don't really care.

I hope we actually do something this afternoon. It's going to get boring otherwise.

Glad all went well today, bam...when your friend the character comes in tomorrow, greet him by saying "Marahaba, obi". You'll probably get a raise on the spot. It just means "hello, friend/brother"

I got some Xmas shopping done - wiped out both nieces lists. But I already had to do a return - got Guitar Hero 3 for PS3 instead of PS2 even tho I stared at the damn boxes for 5 minutes. I wanted the Les Paul, lol.

Xmas shopping.....already? I guess I'm what they call a "pressure" shopper. I start mine on or after Dec. 23.

Typical. I'm sure your wife has to do all the real shopping.

It's just that you can't get a wii on Dec 23rd. It's up to someone to do the dirty work of advance shopping.

Oh, I also got my Christmas cards today at Target. I don't love them love them but they are pretty nice, the best I've seen anywhere.

I'll be really pissed if I see better ones in the next week.

Prepare to be pissed......it always happens, no matter what you're buying.
