7-11-08 FRIDAY!

So, I have an 11:40 Dr. apptmt. A week's worth of this untreatable cough has forced my hand but that in no way reduces the lack of confidence I have in the medical profession to acurately diagnose and treat me. I just figure what have I got to lose? I've tried a half dozen OTC treatments and it's Friday - if I get worse over the weekend I'll have to go to a walk-in place.

But fuck all, at least it is Friday, right?

Mine is much better.....yesterday my wife threatened to make ME a Dr's appt. HAHAHAHAHA I said.....I'm not taking off work, pay a doctor a 20 dollar copay, just to tell me i have a cold, and give me a RX that works just as good as jello. I'm WAYYYYYY smarter....and tougher than that. I don't need a stupid doctor telling me what I already know, and then paying him for the privilege. I can get over it on my own.....now excuse me.....I have a coughing fit going on, and my nose needs another box of Kleenex applied to it.

That's my way of thinking! Boy, was I wrong today.

The doctor was rather appalled at my condition and prescribed 3 drugs for me; a new inhaler, a pack of steriods and the miracle cough elixir. I just woke up! From SLEEPING!

Sleeping is the best cure.....i went to bed last night at 7:30.....and slept 11 hours, and felt pretty good. Actually, I am better.....the crud in my chest has loosened up, and my sinuses have at least retreated to the back burner......and my eyes aren't scratchy anymore, and I haven't sneezed ONE time today......even out in bright sunlight. Maybe I oughta go see your doc.....he/she seems to know what to prescribe. All mine ever wants to do is chastise me for smoking, and check my prostate.

Glad you are doing better, too. Yours does sound more like a cold and you are right, they almost never prescribe anything for colds. Not anything good anyway.

My doc is a she. I always pick women when given a choice. I guess that makes me sexist. Or prudish, lol.

Truth be told, I think I've swung the other way since my last company physical. I found it almost.....awwww hell.....enjoyable.....when she did the prescribed checkings.

There was a Maverick marathon on last weekend. Maybe it's on all the time but I never watch the western channel. Anyway, I used to watch these with my dad on weekends and I felt nostalgic and recorded a few.

I'm watching one with Bart now, Three Queens Full, and it's a parody of Bonanza. The Wheelright family with 3 sons. Thurston Howell the 3rd is the dad. The 3 sons match - Moose instead of Hoss, etc. The family stole their land from the Indians, the sons are uncouth and slow and the town hates them, lol. I can't help but wonder how this went down back in the day.

I think this is the first time in history that we are aware of the deaths of so many people we "know" even if we don't know them. With movies, widespread press, tv, internet, etc.... we "know" more about more people now than ever before - from celebrities to authors to politicians to leaders to every tom, dick and harry with 15+ minutes of fame. Every day there are familier names in the obituaries.

Contrast that to past history where people's circle of "known" were actually known to them. Large families, community life where you knew everyone - but "knew" is subjective there, too. How well did people know their butcher or grocery clerk or blacksmith? Much of the info back then was prolly tabloid like - gossip, rumor and second hand "facts".

At least back in the day you probably attended the funeral.

I think we're all in sensory overload mode.....we have too much information coming at us from all sides, with every nuance dissected and analyzed of each little event. I wonder what it would be like on a desert island like Tom Hanks for four years.....just let it all pass you by, and worry only about where your next meal is coming from.....or whether "Wilson" would make a good lover.

I like the information access. I'm not as fond of what is thrown at us, or shoved down our throat or even what we secretly seek out as guilty pleasures.

But....those geniuses around the world that were previously without access to knowledge...well no telling what kind of inventions and entrepeneurship will we see produced from the spread of information.

Yes that's all true......whether good or bad. Some poor guy over in Zimbabwe might be inspired to become the scientist who discovers a cancer vaccine......or put the knowledge together to build a homemade nuke and take out Cairo.
