Well, when the Mets played in Philadelphia last month for four games, the Phightin Phils won em all.
I expected the Mets to show them who's boss on our home turf...

We lost our 5th game in a row vs. the 'ol Pharts, a 3-2 heartbreaker
that can be directly attributed to horrendous umpiring. I won't go into details.
It pains me. cry2

Its really no big deal if we don't beat the Phils,
but I live closer to Philadelphia than New York
these days, and I am surrounded by Phillie phans.

So I have to hear it when the Phils beat my boys.

Odds are very good for the Mets making the post season playoffs,
and the Phils odds are,......not as good.

So why I want the Mets to beat the Phillies, more than
any other team in baseball, can be considered a wasted sentiment,
and can also be justified by my station in life.

Well, how will it go today?

Im not sure who to blame for todays loss.
Pedro Martinez pitched fantastic.
Oh wait,...I know who.
CarlosBee lost a fly ball and let it drop for a 2 run triple in the 8th,
when it was tied 3-3.

By tricky they must mean it traveled through the air the way normal fly balls tend to travel through the air.
First they go up,...then they come down.
The objective is being under it when it comes down, and receive it in your leather glove.

Today the Mets lost 12-4 to the last place Washington Nationals.
The second place Phillies won a wacky game against the Cardinals, 13-11.

Im not moved to create anything artistic to reflect this turn of events, and now I wonder if this thread even belongs in this section.
It might end up being just a blaaaaaahhhhg.

The Mets did all the little things, the things they had forgotten to do
for like a week or two, and they beat those nasty Nationals.

And if they lost tonight and the Phils won, I was prepared to jump up
from my seat and flash this placard to the world:

BUT!

The Mets won and the Phillys lost, and the Mets are back to a
2 and a half game lead in the N.L. East. with 11 games left to play.
That makes their magic number 9.

For you people who do not know what that means,
it means if the Mets can keep winning for 9 games they can
pull a rabbit out of their hat regardless of what the Phillies do.

David Wright was BIG tonight, fueling more
speculation that he deserves the National League M.V.P.(most valuable player award)

The Mets were established in 1962, and during those 45 years
no Met player has ever won the award.

The Mets have also never had a pitcher throw a no-hitter in their rich history, and an MVP
and a no-no are two things I'd love to see before I depart this mortal plain.

I'll settle for the one this season.

So,...
the ending of the Mets season was quite uneventful.
They did do some historical thing the last month, and I congratulate them for making history. MetWhistle

For such a young baseball team, the Mets have sooooooo much history.
