Tropic Thunder

This movie has some great hype and I ate it up. The previews made me laugh and not even the retards protesting it could sway me against it.

But like almost always when I have high expectations for a movie I came out of the theater disappointed. Not that it's not a good movie but it does not live up to all the hype. I laughed, I laughed more times than I can count but inbetween the laughs I was kind of bored. There's a lot of talent in this film and they do a great job of supporting Ben Stiller, the co-writer, producer and lead actor who is the weakest link...well, I just don't care for his clueless schtick, yet again.

For the price we paid for two matinee tickets we could have bought a DVD. Which is where I should have seen this one.

Awww.... that's what I was afraid of. I'm not sure it'll keep me from picking it though if I get another movie night out. It's hard for t.o.m. and me to agree on a movie, and even though it sounds a little less than what I'd like, it's probably better than 90% of the movies he'd pick. Ben Stiller can be pretty funny, but that schtick is getting a bit stale.

It's still a decent movie but I think they gave too much away with all the press the movie got. I thought the point of having a huge star in an uncredited cameo in disguise was a "secret" surprise. The name was given in the first article I read (and every one thereafter). Same with the bits seen in the preview and the beginning of the movie (don't be seated late!).
